Building a Makeshift School
After meeting with the community members about building a school for the neighborhood, the (soon-to-be) teachers and parents organized a cleanout day to prepare the land. Adults and children from all over the community came to clear the bushes using cutlasses, shovels, diggers and rakes. Even the children were enthusiastically part of the effort. We hired a professional crew to then put together the mats and floors of the makeshift buildings. This whole process took 3 weeks and the end result (shown below) was something we were all proud of.
